About Me

Okay. I created this blog as a place for me to document my younger years and grow into the young adult that I'm becoming through sharing my experiences with anyone who's intrigued enough to read through the (sometimes confused) ramblings of a teenage boy. Judging by the title I've given to this page, I suppose this is also where I write a little bit of background information about myself. So here goes!

My full name is Giovanni William Di Siena and, at the time of writing, I am a 15 year old schoolboy (if you hadn't guessed already) although I don't think I will remember to change that figure every year so it's probably easier to tell you that I was born on 28 June 1998 (so I'm practically 16).

I'm a sufferer of hypothyroidism (see my 'An Apple A Day Keeps The Doctor Away' post) and enjoy swimming despite the fact that, for me, it seems as though it has more downs than ups. I believe I peaked at the age of 13, before I unfortunately broke my thumb, and hence why most of my PBs are from the 2012/13 season. Any that I have gotten since then have been very marginal.

I also enjoy playing rugby, although I've never played for a team outside of school, however I'm a fairly good player, even if I do say so myself! I suppose my biggest advantage is that I'm able to use the strength I've built up from swimming when tackling. I was also very lucky to have found another sport, other than swimming, that I could use to complete my GCSE PE combination to a relatively high standard.

Like a lot of other people my age, music is another massive part of my life! If I were to name all my favourite artists and genres I think it'd take me the best part of a day as there's just so many!

When I was younger I went through a phase of listening to nothing but Nickelback, then it was chart music and now I've broadened my preference to almost everything bar screamo (Lee still hasn't managed to convert me). I do enjoy a good dance to Fuse ODG, as his tunes are infectious, but RazorlightSnow Patrol (Eyes Open) and live Coldplay Jack JohnsonDotan, Enter Shikari, Half Moon Run, Catfish and the BottlemenOur Last Night and Simple Plan are a few of my current favourites, especially since the two latter bands are due to release new albums within a matter of weeks. Oh, and I'm also going to an OLN show in London this coming Friday, immediately after sitting my PHA3X written exam!

I won't forget to mention Biffy Clyro and Bastille - as I also listen to them more than I should do - but there are tonnes of new artists, who I haven't mentioned, that are making music that is brilliant! These include You Me At Six, Mallory Knox, Lower Than Atlantis and Royal Blood to name only a few.

On the other hand, I've also started appreciating older artists (such as Don HenleyBryan Adams and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers). I suppose I just like listening to anything that I can rock out to!! A particular genre? Probably alternative/indie rock.

I should also probably mention academics and future plans somewhere in here, while I remember. I'm a bit of a perfectionist, so when I open my results on 21 August (I think it is) I'm hoping to see as many A*s as possible. I won't settle for anything less - shown by the fact that achieving 'A' in English Language continues to irritate me.

I understand that some people would kill for those grades so I think I need to reiterate the fact that I'm not ungrateful, I just demand excessive amounts from myself. After all, the amount of time and effort that was put into revision is, if you like, rewarded by achieving what you set out to achieve.

I'm not completely certain I will get every grade I'm hoping for and I think the long wait is going to drive me insane! I'm furthering my education at my current school by joining the Sixth Form in September and studying biology, chemistry, physics and maths for A Level. In two year's time, I'd ideally like to go to university and study something science-based.

If they continue to run the course when it's my time to apply, the University of Nottingham and Imperial College will both be receiving an application - from myself - onto their 'Chemistry and Molecular Physics' MSci courses. It seems slightly crazy that I've managed to map out my life this far but on top of my former plans I'd also like to join the 'Fellowship Programme' at CERN, working in particle physics for two years, subsequent to completing my degree, before travelling the world of course!

I think these last couple of paragraphs are going to contain a few random facts about me as it seems like a nice way to end this not-so-short introduction, which leads me onto my first point; I take pride in everything I do.

I'm the eldest of three children and my two favourite colours have always been green and red. Having said that, I now find blue very relaxing and apt with regard to swimming.

I worship food. You may have already established that from some of my early posts but it seems only right to mention it once again. My favourite meal? Anything edible is a good place to start but I think Christmas dinner might have stolen the win.

I enjoy reading (which may be substance for a future post) and, now that I have enough time, films too. I'll admit, I'm a sucker for love stories and could die for a relationship like 'Endless Love.' If any of you follow me on twitter then you may have already known that.

Finally, the coast. Seaside. Beach. Whatever you want to call it, in my opinion you can't beat being there! There's something about the sun beating down on you, fresh sea air and cold water that I relish.

Writing about the seaside reminds me - I didn't earlier mention two great bands that are The Kooks and The Killers. If you're a fan of their music I think you'll understand the connection.

Writing this post-post-script reminds me of one of my sister's favourite films (Cars 2) but the actual reason for it was to say that this introduction, if you like, is relatively superficial, even though it's very long, and so through you reading the posts I have written/will write in the future I hope to provide you with a greater insight into me as a person and my life.

It;s not worth devoting an entire post to these almost trivial details, however I've seen it done before and felt a fleeting desire to share a couple of my current favourites:

Film: Olympus Has Fallen
Book: The 100/Day 21/Homecoming (which I read non-stop, within a matter of hours)
TV Series: Scorpion
Band: Mallory Knox Our Last Night
